The Vancouver Aquarium has made a reputation and as a cutting edge organization with the capability to respond to changing conservation and aquatic protection needs through diversity and growth. From a 9,000 square foot (830 square meters) facility in Stanley Park, with 7 employees on opening day in 1956 (5 more had to be hired the day after the opening to cope with the crowds), the Vancouver Aquarium has grown to over 100,000 square feet (9,000 square meters) and 385 employees today.

With over 7000 species, the Vancouver Aquarium has become a very important addition to the city’s tourism industry. Every year this top attraction features events and exhibits such as beluga whale-whistling and the Amazon rainforest gallery that is home to large fish. Visitors can take photos of the Bunaken coral reef, piranhas, whales, reef sharks, sea otters and green tree frogs to name a few. See octopus and salmon that are right out of the Pacific Ocean or watch as dolphins dive into the air at the mammal deck. If you are lucky you might be able to catch a sea otter or shark being fed by the aquarium staff. There are many exotic fish to see and kids can enjoy all types of programs and clubs. As you head towards Stanley Park you will see numerous signs that will direct you to the Vancouver Aquarium. There is also a gift shop at the aquarium that will give you a chance to buy souvenirs, t-shirts, stuffed animals and more.
